Pupil Premium Overview

Pupil Premium funding is targeted funding for specific groups of children in order that all children make maximum progress and narrow the attainment gap.

Pupil Premium funding is available for:

• Targeted Free School Meals (Targeted FSM / Ever 6): Children eligible for income-assessed Free School Meals currently or within the last 6 years (under the net household income threshold of £7,400 per year before benefits).Under recent DfE policy updates, an Expanded FSM tier covers all households receiving Universal Credit. Expanded FSM provides access to free school meals, but only pupils under Targeted FSM qualify for Pupil Premium (Ever 6) funding.

• Looked After Children (LAC) & Previously Looked After Children: Children who are looked after by a local authority or who have left care through adoption, a Special Guardianship Order (SGO), or a Child Arrangements Order (CAO).

• Service Pupil Premium (SPP / Ever 6 Service): Children with a parent serving in the regular armed forces, or who have been registered as a service child on any school census in the last 6 years (Ever 6).

Pupil Premium funding information and application forms are provided to all parents to complete each year. Once a family is no longer eligible for Targeted Pupil Premium or Service Premium, the child continues to receive Ever 6 funding for up to 6 years.

Purpose & Delivery

The funding provides targeted support to narrow the attainment gap between children from disadvantaged backgrounds and their peers. The school decides how best to deploy this grant using evidence-based approaches (such as guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation - EEF), tailored to individual children's needs.

Barriers to Learning

Haddenham Community Infant School consults with a range of stakeholders to determine key areas of need. Key barriers include:

• Speech, Language, and Communication needs

• Attachment and trauma-informed emotional needs

• Reading, English, and Early Phonics needs

• Maths and early number fluency needs

• Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs

• Gross and fine motor control needs

Demographic and individual contexts are carefully weighed when allocating interventions.

Haddenham Community Infant School’s Pupil Premium Principles

The school ensures that:

• All teaching and learning opportunities meet the individual needs of every child.

• Children receiving Pupil Premium funding, regardless of ability, have the right to achieve their full potential. Funding targets key skills to support this.

• Funding guarantees that every child makes at least good progress in reading, writing, and maths.

• Children access enrichment activities that build aspiration, self-confidence, and new skills.

Opportunities for Pupil Premium Expenditure

Pupil Premium funding is deployed across three core EEF tiers: High-Quality Teaching, Targeted Academic Support, and Wider Strategies. Spending covers:

• Targeted Academic Support:

  • 1:1 and small-group targeted tuition in phonics, reading, writing, and maths

  • Early intervention programmes (e.g., WellComm Speech & Language, early math pre-teaching)

  • Private Speech and Language Therapy provision

  • Home learning resources and targeted books/apps

• High-Quality Teaching:

  • Staff training and continuous professional development (CPD) in key curriculum areas and attachment/trauma support

  • High-quality classroom resources to support adaptive teaching

• Wider & Pastoral Support:

  • Breakfast Club access to facilitate smooth morning transitions and build social interaction

  • Targeted transition support throughout the school day

  • Interventions boosting self-esteem, confidence, and varied friendships

  • Support for developing gross and fine motor skills

  • Subsidised or funded access to extracurricular clubs, school trips, and cultural enrichment (e.g., theatre visits)

  • Access to pre-loved uniform and essential learning items

Measuring Impact & Governance

Haddenham Community Infant School measures intervention outcomes using a triangulation approach: pupil tracking data, reflective observations, and diagnostic internal assessments.

• Impact is evaluated during half-termly progress reviews.

• Results are reviewed by the designated Pupil Premium Governor and formally reported to the Governing Body.

• The Pupil Premium Strategy Statement is updated and published on the school website annually.
